On 17 October 2024, the INTERFACES colloquium on “Communities of Practice and Learning” was presented by Aiveen Donnelly, INTERFACES Communications Manager and researcher at IDOS and Benjamin Abugri, Lead Specialist for Knowledge Management, Digitalization and Learning Cluster at FARA. Nearly 40 participants listened to and engaged with the two speakers who shared insights into the management of knowledge, keeping in mind that there is explicit and tacit knowledge and both push and pull factors to be considered. Knowledge Cafes are one way of sharing knowledge and several such Cafes took place during 2024 hosted by several PhD students from within the regional projects and INTERFACES. In the coming weeks, the information gathered during these events will be shared with the community of practice (currently more than 400 participants) who have subscribed to the INTERFACES D-groups at FARA (https://faraafrica.community/interfaces). Further information regarding these validation Knowledge Cafe can be found on our homepage under “Innovation”  (https://sustainable-landmanagement-africa.net/innovation/km4agd-challenge/).

Following a Mentimeter consultation amongst the participants, which asked four questions, these aspects were deepened in the discussion: What do you expect from a Community of Practice and Learning?, Which Communities of Practice and Learning do you currently use?, What do you see as the greatest benefits of Communities of Practice and Learning? and What have you experienced as a constraint in a Community of Practices and Learning? Lastly, everyone was urged to participate actively in the INTERFACES CoPL and use it to reach out to the vast combined body of knowledge therein.
