During a workshop for sharing and political dialogue, organised by IPAR Think Tank on the results of the foresight report on Sustainable Rice Intensification in Sustainable Land Management, the local theatre troupe Piindi Pinal Ndioum Walo put on a performance on sustainable land management to raise awareness among farmers' organisations, but with educational content on the production of organic fertilisers using local raw materials.
In order to take proactive measures, territorial foresight was deployed in a multi-stakeholder approach in the Podor department located in the Senegal River Valley as part of the COINS Project. Thirty-three factors of change were identified, the most influential of which on Sustainable Land Management (SLM) in an Intensive Rice Cultivation System (IRCS) are government support measures, community awareness-raising, strengthening of technical structures, governance of producer organisations and human capital.
Three prospective scenarios are structured around these driving variables: an optimistic scenario entitled ‘The Golden Age of SRI in Podor’, an intermediate scenario entitled ‘Semi-Green Horizon’ and a pessimistic scenario entitled ‘SRI: Erosion of Hopes’. An action plan has been collectively developed to achieve the optimistic scenario and avoid the pessimistic scenario. One of the elements of this action plan relates to raising awareness and strengthening the capacities of communities, particularly farmers’ organisations, in relation to land degradation
That is why, during the workshop for sharing and political dialogue organised by IPAR Think Tank with departmental authorities and decentralised technical services of the State on the results of the foresight report on Sustainable Rice Intensification in Sustainable Land Management, the local theatre troupe Piindi Pinal Ndioum Walo put on a performance on sustainable land management to raise awareness among farmers’ organisations, but with educational content on the production of organic fertilisers using local raw materials.
