Transdisciplinary research (TDR) is seen as an important research mode to address the sustainability challenges of our time. There is a gap between “ideal type” and “real world” transdisciplinary research. Appropriate research funding conditions are needed to allow a transdisciplinary research approach to come to fruition. This is particularly true when transdisciplinary research is carried out in a global North-South collaborative context, where research teams are confronted with a “double burden” of global North-South collaboration and research-practice collaboration. This presentation will share insights from a series of workshops with research funders, researchers and practitioners from Germany and Africa on TDR funding conditions. The presentation will include first-hand impressions from the workshops, captured in a five-minute video produced jointly by IDOS, FARA and H-BRS colleagues.
